Oops: Amazon Echo Leaks Snippets of New Lady Gaga Album

...

Lady Gaga's latest album, Joanne, is set for an Oct. 21 release. But some crafty Little Monsters got an (unauthorized) early listen.

Amazon, which is selling the album for a pre-order price of $19.98, typically provides 30-second track snippets. Those previews, however, have been disabled for Gaga's fifth album. And while the singer has already released two tracks—"Perfect Illusion" and "Million Reasons"—on her website, enterprising fans discovered they can hear other tunes via their Amazon Echo.

According to the BBC, users asked the device to "Play Joanne by Lady Gaga" and it complied. Not surprisingly, fans recorded and posted the song fragments online, though the one the BBC links to has already been removed. Among the leaked tracks are "Hey Girl" (a duet with Florence + The Machine's Florence Welch) and "Just Another Day," the BBC said.

Amazon did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment.

Joanne is named after the artist's aunt, Joanne Germanotta, who passed away from lupus in 1974 at the age of 19, according to the BBC. (It is also part of Gaga's birth name, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.)

"This record was about me trying to understand my father, and his grief" over losing a family member, she said in a statement announcing the album last month. "It's also a record about me trying to understand myself and wondering where I'm going next in life. … So Joanne is like, you know, Lady Gaga if you erase all the fame."

Those who missed the first stop on Gaga's Dive Bar Tour in Nashville this week can watch the live stream on Bud Light's Facebook page.
