Job Hunt on LinkedIn Without Tipping Off Your Current Boss

...

LinkedIn is making it easier for job seekers to find a new employer without tipping off their current one.

Open Candidates lets users privately signal to recruiters that they're open to new career opportunities. Visit the "Preferences" tab on the LinkedIn Jobs home page to toggle on the feature. Provide information about the types of companies and roles you're interested in, and wait for the offers to come rolling in.

As an added precaution, LinkedIn will hide recruiters at your company, as well as any head hunters affiliated with it. Open Candidates is free for job hunters, but employers must pay for LinkedIn's premium service tier to hunt for prospective employees.

"Don't forget to update your profile. That's the first thing a recruiter will look at," LinkedIn careers product leader Dan Shapero wrote in a blog post.

Initially available in Australia, Canada, the US, and the UK on the desktop and mobile Web, Open Candidates will roll out globally "soon."

Open Candidates is just one part of a larger overhaul of LinkedIn's recruitment products, which include a more dynamic Career Pages (pictured), which is intended to help employers better stand out to the site's 450 million global users.

"We significantly revamped Career Pages to make it easier for you to tell an authentic story about your culture and careers, improve discoverability of your jobs, and give you robust analytics to measure performance and optimise results," Eric Owski, head of talent brand products at LinkedIn, said in a blog post.

The new pages include three sections—company overview, relevant jobs, and culture ("life"). The latter, and arguably most interesting, tab lets users share what life's like at their organization via articles, photos, videos, and posts from employees.
