Banish FOMO With Instagram 'Event Channel'

...

Instagram this week introduced a new way for users to view videos filmed at global events.

A new "event channel" in the app's Explore section features clips from sports games, concerts, and theater performances, and more—"so you can feel like you're in the front row," Instagram said in a blog post.

"Like the rest of Explore, this new channel is personalized for you and highlights events you might like," Instagram continued.

Posts are selected automatically based on posts you like and people you follow. Don't like what you see? Click the three dots in the video's upper-right corner to report inappropriate content, or tell Instagram to show fewer videos like it.

The update is currently available only in the US, but should roll out to the rest of the world "soon." You'll have to update your mobile app to the latest version to see the changes.

Instagram in April tweaked the design of its Explore tab to better highlight broadcasts; tap "Videos you might like" at the top of the screen to scroll through clips, rather than a mix of photos and videos.

Earlier this month, the filtered-photo network ripped off Snapchat with the release of Instagram Stories, which lets users share "all the moments of your day, not just ones you want to keep on your profile," the company said.

Tap the plus sign in the upper left corner of the screen to add photos or videos throughout the day; content is automatically assembled into a slideshow, which disappears after 24 hours, and is not visible on your profile grid or photo feed.
