Report: Second Democratic Party Organization Hacked

...

The DNC is reportedly not the only headache for Democrats. According to Reuters, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) might also be the victim of a hack.

The FBI is now investigating a breach at the DCCC, which serves as the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the House of Representatives. But even though the DCCC collects financial information for donation purposes, Reuters suggests the hackers might have been more interested in donor lists themselves for political purposes.

The hack could have occurred last month; that's when a fake site with a URL very close to that of the DCCC went online, capturing some traffic, Reuters reports.

The news comes shortly after an earlier hack of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). The organization hired a security firm, Crowdstrike, to investigate the breach, and it pointed the finger at Russian government hackers. Then, right before this week's Democratic National Convention, DNC emails were posted online by Wikileaks, prompting chatter that the Russians, who appear to favor Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton, were trying to influence the US election.

According to Reuters, the IP address associated with the DNC hack is similar to one used for the DCCC hack.

On Monday, the FBI also launched an investigation into the DNC's email server hack.

Neither the DCCC nor the FBI immediately responded to PCMag's request for comment.
