Schedule an Uber 30 Days in Advance

...

Less than a month after Lyft debuted Scheduled Rides, rival Uber is launching its own version of the service—with a twist.

Users can schedule a ride 30 minutes to 30 days in advance, "and have the comfort of knowing your Uber will be there when it's time to head out," product lead Russell Dicker wrote in a blog post.

For now, it's limited to UberX rides, and the company will "give priority access to riders who have Business Profiles or are linked to their company's Uber for Business account," Dicker said.

To arrange a driver, select UberX and tap "Schedule a Ride." Set a pickup date, time, location, and destination, and once the details are confirmed, press "Schedule UberX." Prices are the same as a normal UberX ride, and subject to the conditions that exist when your ride takes place. In other words, surge pricing may apply.

Uber will send reminders 24 hours and 30 minutes in advance of pickup. Users will also be notified once their ride is on its way; cancel the journey at any time before the car is dispatched without paying a fee.

The global launch began this week in Seattle, and will roll out to other top biz-travel cities, according to Uber. Folks around the world, however, can sign up online to find out when the program arrives in their area.

Ride-sharing platform Lyft in May announced plans to let users reserve a car up to 24 hours in advance. Early testing will take place in San Francisco, and Lyft plans to expand the service this summer.
