Text From Windows 10 PCs With Newest Mobile Build

The latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build lets you use the "Messaging Everywhere" universal app to send and receive SMS text messages from a Windows 10 PC.

You'll need to use a supported Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview device. Once you're signed in with a Microsoft Account, visit your phone's settings to toggle on the "Send texts on all my Windows devices" option. Then, via the settings of the PC-based Messaging app, choose which phone to send messages through.

Similar to Apple's Messages service, all Windows 10 messages are synced across platforms, so you can keep up with conversations whether you're at home, in the office, or on the go. (Plus, texting on the computer is less conspicuous in front of your boss than a smartphone.)

Some savvy users, meanwhile, may have noticed that Skype integration in the Messaging app has been removed. Microsoft will replace it with the Skype UWP Preview app in an upcoming build, but in the meantime, folks can use the existing Skype for Windows Phone app.

This week's mobile update also adds more languages to Cortana's arsenal; the virtual assistant now speaks Spanish (Mexico), Portuguese (Brazil), and French (Canada), all of which are support voice input. Set focus to a text field and tap the microphone above the keyboard to try it out.

"For each new market and language, the Cortana Team works to develop a custom experience that is relevant in each individual market and language," Microsoft's Gabe Aul wrote in a blog post. "These are early versions that we will continue [to] improve based on your feedback."

Meanwhile, Redmond made a number of fixes to the mobile platform, including patching issues with the screen, keyboard, and apps and updating autocorrection, among others.

Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14327 is available to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.
