Google Maps is Getting Lists to Help Keep Places Organized

In the latest Google Maps beta, Google has included a new feature that is currently only available to Google Local Guides rated level 4 and higher. That new feature is lists, which is pretty self-explanatory, but could also be really, really useful for heavy Maps users.

With the new lists option in Maps, users will be able to create and view lists of places through the “Your places” section sitting in the slideout navigation menu. Once in there, the new lists area shows a FAB in the bottom corner that allows you to create new lists, but also starts out with a handful to get you going, like “Favorites,” “Want to go,” and “Shared places.” In order to save items to lists, you’ll still tap on the “Save” button when viewing a location, but with lists activated, you will see a list of your lists pop-up for selection.

You can see the new lists action in the images below.

According to users in Google’s Local Guides program who received the invite to test the new feature, the rest of us (that would be the public) may not see lists arrive for months. The exact wording is, “We’re rolling out lists to Level 4+ Local Guides on Google Maps for Android over the next week – months before we launch to the public.”

If you are a Local Guide, time to update to the latest beta.

SPUD Gives Any Smartphone a 24-Inch Display

The latest of those ideas is the Spontaneous Pop-up Display (SPUD), which takes your smartphone and converts it into a 24-inch display without sacrificing portability.A portable 24-inch display may sound like a contradiction, and it would be if it weren't for the fact SPUD collapses down to the size of a paperback book when not in use.

Google Maps Starts Showing Speed Limits During Navigation

While Waze users have had a similar feature for some time, Google Maps users have had hope to see a speed limit road sign to know how fast to drive. From what we can tell (since neither of us are seeing speed limits), the speed limit for your current road is displayed in the bottom left corner of Google Maps, just above your route info.
