Report: Galaxy Note 6 Will Feature USB Type-C

...

According to the latest exclusive from SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 6 from Samsung will in fact feature USB Type-C — no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It was previously reported from the Wall Street Journal that the Galaxy S7 would feature a Type-C port, but as you can see, that did not happen.

As for why Samsung is one of the last major OEMs to adopt Type-C, it is speculated that the company was not yet ready to toss away all of the Gear VR units it had created with microUSB connections due to a new port. Instead, Samsung would wait until its next big release to introduce not only USB Type-C for its phones, but for its virtual reality platform, too.

At this time, it is still unknown if Samsung will adopt USB 3.1 or an older standard, but we do hope Samsung opts for 3.1. This move would then allow for Power Delivery 2.0 (faster battery charging), plus the ability to carry HDMI and Display Port video signals.

Before we all start cheering, let me be clear. We have heard these types of reports before. We hear them, get excited, then something else happens. It’s the way this industry works. For now, we will remain optimistic, but won’t hold our breath. Additionally, do note that SamMobile still believes that the Galaxy Note 6 might come with an iris scanner. Now that is a feature to get hyped over.
