Big data, security, and developer jobs are expected to get salary boosts in the coming year, according to Robert Half's 2017 Technology & IT Salary Guide. Here's a look at 10 hot jobs to watch.

IT professionals looking to boost their career and salary in 2017 should take a look at new research prepared by specialized staffing agency, Robert Half, which recently published a series of new guides to help workers and employers prepare for the new year, including The Top 10 Technology Jobs to Watch for in 2017.

There's plenty of opportunity for ambitious IT pros in today's enterprise organizations, according to Robert Half.

"Many businesses have reached a tipping point with their IT ecosystem where it is now imperative that they significantly upgrade legacy technology, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, or migrate to new solutions," said the Robert Half 2017 Technology & IT Salary Guide. "Other organizations are looking to simplify IT and move more processes to the cloud. Big data and security initiatives remain at the top of to-do lists for many organizations."

The Robert Half Technology Salary Guide is created by the agency to help employers evaluate compensation trends and develop employment strategies that align with their industries and regions. The guide is created based on "our deep network to identify the latest salary ranges in the IT industry, as well as the most recent hiring and workplace trends."

Robert Half says its salary data "is based chiefly on input from North American recruiting and staffing professionals who make thousands of full-time, temporary, and project placements each year. The projected salaries for each position reflect base pay only."

Robert Half is forecasting that employers across North American will hire both full-time and contract professionals, including developers (web, software, and mobile applications), business intelligence analysts, database administrators, help desk and desktop support pros (especially in tiers 2 and 3), systems engineers, and systems administrators.

The firm says that its research shows that employers are increasingly willing to negotiate pay rates, which is why it's helpful to have a strong understanding of how compensation is trending.

The following slides offer titles, US salary ranges from 2016, projected US salary ranges for 2017, and the expected percentage growth between the median salaries for each year.

Job descriptions, which are based on Robert Half's IT Job Descriptions, a glossary of titles and summaries, are included. See how much salaries are expected to increase for each of these top 10 jobs to watch in 2017.
