Play-Doh Touch App Animates Your Real-Life Creations

...

If you're looking to bring your Play-Doh creations to life, you can do a lot of drugs. Or you can download the Play-Doh Touch app for iOS.

Hasbro's new app takes real-life Play-Doh creations and places them into a video game-like world. Just create something with your clay, snap a photo of it, and the Play-Doh app will animate it. From there, interact with your creation, add effects, and digitally enhance the Play-Doh in other ways.

The app is free, but if your artistic talents are lacking, the $40 Play-Doh Touch Shape to Life Studio will help you craft certain shapes. The set comes with Play-Doh, character stampers, action stampers, cutters, and tools.

The Studio set will be sold exclusively at Apple Stores and on Apple.com.

"For the first time ever, fans can truly bring their creations to life with Play-Doh Touch," Greg Lombardo, vice president of marketing for the Play-Doh brand, said in a statement. "Since 1956, the Play-Doh brand has evolved to fit the ever-changing wants and needs of our fans from around the world. As we celebrate our 60th birthday this year, it was important to seamlessly infuse new technology into the classic, hands-on Play-Doh experience while staying true to our core values of inspiring creativity and imagination."

Hasbro is one of many toy companies exploring opportunities to expand its decidedly analog and offline solutions to the connected and mobile world. But over the last several years, such moves have largely been hit or miss.

For now, Hasbro appears to be hitching its ride to Apple, though it plans to expand the set to other retailers and the app to other platforms at a later date.
