Samsung's Galaxy Note 7s Are...Still Exploding

...

More headaches for Samsung today as one of its reportedly safe Note 7 smartphones started smoking and forced the evacuation of a Southwest Airlines flight.

All passengers were asked to leave the cabin and no one was injured, the airline told The Verge in a statement. The flight was canceled and passengers are being rebooked.

While Note 7 woes are nothing new, much to Samsung's chagrin, this incident is notable because the phone's owner tells The Verge that it was a replacement device that's not supposed to have the same issues as earlier Note 7s. After the device was shut off, it reportedly started smoking, leaving burn marks on the plane's floor.

Last month, Samsung delivered 500,000 new Note 7s to carriers and stores, which it said were safe, and distributed at least half of them. That came after reports surfaced in August of the Galaxy Note 7 overheating, burning users, and in some cases, exploding. Samsung issued a global recall of an estimated 2.5 million devices and said that the flaw was due to a manufacturing problem.

Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment. According to The Verge, the Note 7 owner is trading in his phablet for an iPhone 7.
